Dear Cool Teacher,
Define "loads," please. He was probably responsible for some deaths, but how many "leaders" of countries haven't been?
But he was mighty small potatoes compared to, say, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc. And George W Bush is certainly responsible for the deaths of FAR more innocent people than Hugo ever was.
Not even the same ballpark - heck, not even the same league.

Tsk tsk! Don't you know that the Great Leader never killed anyone? Stalin merely broke peasant resistance, and suppressed bourgeois counter-revolutionaries. It is true that many dangerous criminals and wreckers succumbed to premature deaths in the custody of the organs, but the Great Leader cannot be held accountable for people's weak hearts, now can he?

"loads" well he says that since Hugo got to poewr the murder rate has literally gone sky high and many of the people doing the killing are the scerutiy forces who are supposed to be keeping order and many people are getting killed by armed gangs in the jail so he says obvsiouly Chavez is behind this.
I know George W Bush was a bad bad man and everything but I don't want to start a peeing contest over who was worst and also saying he wasn't as bad as Stalin or Pol Pit isn't much of a compliment because when you start comparing then you know there must be something wrong with them. |

Savior.
Im not familiar with all of his policies and activities, or familiar with Venezuela itself, but it does appear that Chavez tended to put the needs of some of the poorest members of society over the needs of big business, oil barons and American (and other countries) foreign policy. He helped reduce povery quite considerably I believe, whilst increasing investment in education and health care.
We could do with his ilk in the UK I think, where the general perception is that government favours the financial industry and media moguls over general public opinion and desire.
Just copied this from wikipedia, obviously there are oodles of things to read there, but I really like this:

With our armies spending their time abroad often fighting in illegal / immoral / dubious conflicts, seeing an army of the people doing something for the people is refreshing. |

Hmmm... well thanks and all that but that is because I really think I could not kill people for politics although I have never been there but it seems amazing to me that people fo. Definitely Pol Pot is one awful person and he was a teacher too. Maybe there is soemthing which we don't ralize about aourselves which may turn out to be terrible. |
