TEFL Thailand has a school in Patong (on Phuket). Their course is $200 less and apparently 10 minutes walk from the beach. While I am there to study and not vacation, it would be nice to be within walking distance to the beach for weekends and the occasional evening stroll.
Anyone have the scoop on this place? Good school? Good deal?
Once again, gratitude.

IF the website looks more like a travel brochure and talks more about travel and the beaches of Phuket than your training then goes on to make lots of promises that won't hold water either then you should have a pretty good idea of what to expect.
Just remember than a legitimate CELTA only costs $2100 and includes your room for the month.

Thank you, tttompatz.
The CELTA programs I have seen so far have been priced higher than that. I certainly did not know the price included the room. I would prefer to not be in Bangkok if that's possible. Maybe I can find a CELTA program at the cost you indicated on Phuket. I will look again. Or if you have any specific recommendations, that would be helpful.
Thanks again for your help!
Be well.

Get Phuket out of your head.
Phuket is for party.
BKK for training.
ANYwhere that is NOT tourist oriented for work.
Decide whether you want to be a tourist or want to work.
The pretty pictures on the TEFL course providers do NOT give a real picture.
The reality is that teaching is work. It is an 8-4:30, M-F grind with lots of kids (50 in a class) and lots of paperwork in between.
You won't be spending your mornings in the class, afternoons on the beach and evenings in the disco.

I understand. And I have no fantasies about it being a vacation. I'm a bit old for discos and never could dance anyway.
Thanks for the link. You've been most helpful.
Cheers.

And work!
I've lived in Phuket since 2002, about 600 metres from the beach and bars. I get time to go to the beach maybe twice a year....
There are people in Phuket who work you know
