I want to do a TEFL certification course in the country I plan to teach in (either Greece, Czech Republic, or Argentina) but there are so many and I don't know which ones are legitimate and reliable! Does anyone have any experience?

A good link for useful info is the sticky, "Advice to NEWBIES" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=86411).

Do a Celta or Trinity. Legitimate and reliable in all countries : ). Some other courses are too, but who can know all the brands?

Forget online certs or on-site courses with no teaching practice - save your money. Beyond that, you cannot really go too far wrong.

Best of luck!

I have replied to your posts in the Greece and Czech Rep forum. As for Greece, US citizens have pretty much zero chance to find legal work, regardless of qualifications. Czech Rep is still an option; there are a number of training centres in Prague, all of which offer a solid CELTA/equivalent cert that will be recognized by local employers. Timing is the important thing here; the hiring season is very end August-September, and you need to be here on the ground, CV in hand, interviewing in person.

Regardless of which course you take, you're going to want to make sure that the school helps with Job assistance. Trinity and CELTA are good brands, but there's nothing that states that any of these courses have to offer post course assistance/job help. They are not accredited for that. When you are looking at courses, contact the course and ask for graduate contact and check what they do in terms of job assistance. As mentioned, accreditors have nothing to do with job assistance and don't control for it.

The European market is a getting tighter. If you take a course without sufficient post course help, you may run into problems. Contact the school, get a list of recent grads, contact them to see if they found work.

Cheers,
Chris

I think Sashadroogie's advice is the best you're going to get.
