Hi,
I have been in contact with the recruiting firm Teach Away for a job in Abu Dhabi and have a few questions if anyone can answer. Are they a good company to go through?
I'll give a bit of background on myself for reference. I taught in Korea for almost 9 years, from hagwons to public school, university, and adults in corporate gigs. In Korea recruiters have a bit of a bad rep, though there are some good ones. Apart from my first job there I'd always found my own jobs without a recruiter. Last summer I came back to Ontario, Canada to to my B.Ed and am almost finished, so looking for opportunities. My degree is intermediate/senior and my teachables are English and General Social Sciences. I'm thinking Abu Dhabi or Dubai.
It seems like in their Teach Away FAQ that I would not know for sure whether I'd end up in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, or Al Gharbia. I'd like to be in a somewhat larger area with lots of things available. Also, my wife is Korean and will be coming with me, so I'd like a larger city where she has more options and whatnot.
So if any of the UAE vets could chime in and give me any advice it would be great. So basically, should I go through Teach Away or not. If not, what companies are generally most trusted?
Thanks,
Trevor |

Teachaway is probably the only recruiter that can be recommended in the UAE. They have a pretty decent reputation. I do know that you need a current teaching license/certificate from your home country for most of their positions.
Since we are an ESL/EFL board rather than a K-12 teaching board, we don't have many posters who work for Teachaway or are K-12 teachers. You might want to locate their Facebook page.
