Because when companies like wowcher offer a deal with online TEFL certificates available for $49, its fair to say most people wouldnt really recognise them as a teaching certificate. Even the more respected (or at least recognised) online providers like i-i offer online certificates that can be completed in about 10 hours!
Quite a few people dont recognise a CELTA qualification as being anywhere near enough to make someone a 'qualified' teacher, so the online option has to be pretty much null and void. |

I am certified back in the US ( Social Science 6-12 and Language Arts 6-12), but it is not as nice as having a certificate from the UK.
My certification is good in one state only. I can teach in other US states but it takes awhile and the process, depending on the state cumbersome.
As far as PGCE/QTS is good for life, my state cert is not.
I am process as we speak to get back to US and go through the painstaking process of transfering my certification--OUCH!
I think I will miss the teachers here in China--they are great! Also have learned a lot of insight from Dave's too |

No option for qualified corporate trainers? We don't all teach in schools. |

i guess i don't understand the purpose of the poll. only three options that
are not all encompassing, and with no correlation to type of teaching
position or salary earned.
it seems the poll is asking whether i be a certified teacher, not whether i
gots a certificate. that may explain why no real clarification of what is
meant by certificate.
remember, we're in chinaland. that $49 online cert is just fine for many
positions. few uni jobs require any type of teaching certificate, although
many will list it as a 'preferred' qualification. in that case, most any
piece of paper will do.
who wouldn't recognize them? you must mean international schools
who (snobbishly ) require extraneous jumping of hoops, such as
teaching experience, or education-related degrees.
oh..... a different recognize. you're using "recognize" in the sense of
accepting the validity of the qualifications. i thinking that many schools
officials wouldn't recognize celtas or deltas or whatevereltas....as in
they'd have no clue what they be lookin' at.
i would imagine that for the majority of schools, a celta or a trinity or
a divinity has the same value as a "bob-u's school of engrish" 40-hour
online tefl certificate. |

Yes, K-12 certification in English and ESL in my home state of California. My first official teaching credential was signed by The Governator himself!
It was a pain in the ass. I'm glad it's over. (The governator was a pain in the ass too. I'm glad he's been terminated as the governor).

@ Javelin ... he may "be back" in the movies, but his political career is dead, finished, over, kaput (and that's a GOOD THING)! Even a Republican party filled will brain-dead zombies couldn't revive The Awnald's political career.
You don't have your maid raise your "illegitimate son"-love-child in the same household as a Kennedy in the United States and get away with it politically TWICE! I mean, you may get away with it for ALMOST 15 years, which is what The Governator did ... but you couldn't get away with it two times in the same life time.
Even the Terminator stays melted in a situation like that!
