yuk! no way, i ain't no vegetarian.

So get your wife to cook some stuff (or do it yourself). My girlfriend can cook a great meal for 800 for two people. Your wife is Japanese, right?
We've eaten just about every animal, mineral and vegetable on a very reasonable budget. I have never had such a varied and ....more importantly...balanced diet. (mind you, that's not saying a great deal considering the horrendous stuff that passes as food in the UK Laughing )

I agree, one of the best things about Japan is the food, be it expensive or otherwise.

Cooking for 2 explains it a litte. That is why you can get some variety. But if you are cooking for one you would be stuck with cabbage and little else.

Ah.... Mr. Mulder forgot to tell us is that his Japanese girlfriend cooks for him. THis being the case, of course his food bill will be cheaper.

Misrepresentation therefore. I still maintain that it is unrealistic to say the average English teacher can eat well on 1000 yen/day. 1) they are usually single and 2) they usually don't know where to shop to get bargains like that.

If you are married to a Japanese perhaps you can - depends on your wife and Lord knows they vary a whole lot.

And no, my wife is NOT Japanese Evil or Very Mad
