I am getting more and more serious about finding teaching work in Saudi Arabia. It's a country I have always wanted to teach in but other opportunities always cropped up in the past before I had serious opportunity to look.
Now I have some time and have started to research places to teach and have some interviews coming in...only the more I read about Saudi, the more I think my qualifications aren't up to scratch for the really good jobs. Money is not the most important thing for me, but obviously if I am going to work in Saudi then I want the best payout possible.
My experience looks like this - Three years teaching English at University in Poland, and two years teaching English in the international development field - one in Tajikistan and one in Iraq.
As regards to my qualifications - I have a diploma in Islamic studies, BA in Business and my TEFL qualification. The problem is my TEFL isn't a CELTA and I don't have a MA which I see a lot of places want.
Based on what qualifications and experience I have, is it reasonable to find something good in Saudi? If not Saudi, what other places in the Mid East / North Africa (outside Iraq) would I be able to find good work?

| Yes, the better employers in the region generally require a relevant MA. But instead of wondering what your quals might get you, why not just start applying for those jobs that match your qualifications and see if you get a nibble? Be sure to research the employer/contracting company before accepting an offer. |

Yeah, I am getting a few nibbles but nothing serious so don't know what to make of it.
I am thinking of looking for places wanting business English teachers, I think it fits with my qualifications and experience more.
Does anyone know which Mid East countries are a bit more lenient regarding qualifications? |

What do you mean by nothing serious? Perhaps that's an indication that your qualifications are either poorly presented on your CV or have failed to impress potential employers.

I doubt you'll find plenty of business English teaching jobs in the Gulf. Frankly, your quals will get you something, but it may not be one of the better, direct-hire jobs---one of those so-called "good" jobs you hope for.
As for Mid East countries that tend to be lax on qualifications or not fussy about teachers lacking an MA, check out AMIDEAST to see if any of their field offices are hiring. The pay is lousy, but they do have a variety of locations. And if you're uh, adventurous, there's Yemen and Libya. |

Hmmm, maybe you are right, maybe I should have wrote about my qualifications in green crayon instead of red...
My 'nibbles' are two interviews last week but they didn't seem overly interested in me and I wasn't overly interested in them. I have found a few business English jobs but have only just applied and I am still waiting on a response. |

You can see examples of salary/bennies and qualifications for many of these positions on the Cafe's international job board (http://www.eslcafe.com/joblist/). The Saudi forum has reviews on the contracting companies doing the hiring. |
