As for Qatar being boring ~ nearly anywhere is boring, and a place is only as boring as people allow it to be. Trust me; I grew up in a very "boring" place, but it never occured to me that it was boring, so it's hard for me to understand the constant complaining about boredom.

Boredom is a state of mind. There are a lot of things going on, just check out www.qatarliving.com
If you're a sports fan like I am, there is a major international event on every month sometimes two or three. |

Well compared to the magic kingdom there is a lot more going on. The fact that you can drink in bars is a big plus. My life in the kingdom, however, is too comfy to change. |

So it is said, but then again, most of the places to teach in Qatar are below expected, so I'd say par for the course. This place does have a very bad reputation for overworking staff with teaching duties and excessive non-teaching which is probably one reason why they are so unhappy. |

That may be true but probably the new changes are what makes them unhappy now. I think they are worried about job security. I know at the Gulag when Imtiaz was ousted we were very worried. Some of us were able to get another job with another organization, others had to leave. I hear these guys, it's a rotten deal to not know what is really going on. |

Some people had great expectations. Now they've been reduced.
Too much work, appraisals, e-portfolios, student evaluations, spying,
FIRs, the list goes on. They painted a very different picture at the interview. I'd say ground down expectations. |
Poor Squirk they got rid of you. You are right. Low expectations is what people should have while this major program reconstruction is going on.
Using inexperienced teachers to make major decisions is a joke! |

Absolutely, when teachers don't know what is happening and are treated as if they were children, then you have a lot of workplace misery. Judging by what people are saying, it's still a very insecure work environment. |
