Dear abayababy,

Well, I can provide your friend with the e-mail/facebook addresses of at least eight Saudis and 6 Westerners currently in the Kingdom who will be happy to refute her info.

Please PM me for details.

Regards,
John

P.S. Just a personal opinion, but your friend sounds like an----- Very Happy

If it's so important to you to prove your point, John, then feel free to PM me, though I'd rather pick lint from my navel than continue this asinine argument and follow up with your "friends", so I probably won't bother. I'm pretty sure my roommate feels the same way. But at least you can tell yourself you had the last word. I'm sure that's worth something to you so it's all yours.

Dear abayababy,

Proving my point is not the point. I think it's important to try to provide info that is as valid as possible on these forums since posts are read by many people who are considering going to Saudi.

If we wittingly or unwittingly provide them with info that is not accurate, then we are culpable should they make a bad decision based on that info.

Regards,
John

P.S. Please have the last word - having it matters not one whit to me.

Thanks guys for enriching the post with your debate. I conclude from you discussion that it is very difficult if not impossible- to change employer in KSA. So is the only way to change employer is to get out of the country and apply for a new visa?

Dear dr_heron,

The ONLY way - no. I actually knew one teacher who managed to get transferred while in-country.

If the outfit that's trying to hire you wants you badly enough AND has the "wasta" (i.e. clout, influence) to pull it off, it can happen.

However, I'd say it would be less than wise to depend on your being able to do it.

Regards,
John

If you jump ship shortly after starting your new job, you most likely will not be making any job transfer with a new sponsor (legally).
My advice is...If you can manage to focus on the job you applied for and work for a min. of two years, perhaps then you may consider attempting the illusive sponsor transfer without leaving the country. As stated by John and Scott, your chances are minimal at best. You need to create some serious inroads /connections to make such a switch happen and that takes time. Most employers prefer you go back home and start the process all over again.
