so choudoufu, you're happy to earn 200 an hour when the boss is making upwards of say 1500 a class?
You don't want more? |

Wanting more and getting more are not the same thing. Also, complaining you don't get a big enough cut of the profits is not the same as getting yourself a cut of the profits. So far all I've read in this thread is people whining about the former and having nothing constructive to say about achieving the latter. People are also inferring that this is common practice only in China, and ignoring the fact that it is endemic throughout the world.
Does anyone have any sensible, concrete proposal as to how you get the boss to give you more than 200 and hour when he's making upwards of 1500 a class? Does anyone have any concrete evidence that this is only happening in China, and that in western developed countries everyone is being given a fair and proportionate cut of the profits? |

well.......i'm not UN-happy. more money is gooder, of course.
but to GET more, i'd have to DO more. i'd have to have a chat wit Da Man.
show him i'm worthy of the the big renminbucks. like, hey boss man, i
can show you how to increase your attendance by xx%, and lower your
expenses by xx%.....or something like that.....and i want a cut. in fact,
i'm so sure of myself that i'll take a 50% cut in pay....cause i know i'll
more than triple my original salary with that slice o'pie.
if i expect bigger renminbucks for doing same-same, boss man can fire
my butt and replace me with laowai number three.
if i can't...or won't....prove my renminbuckworthyness, then i'm just some
old fart pissin' & moanin' on the interwebs that the boss man makes more. |

We could be making more of a profit, IF we were Chinese.
And I've explained, my friend runs a soccer training club in the UK, he gives a cut up to 30% to his employees, especially if the children resign.
I've never seen a Chinese boss give 30% of profits away, if the class makes them 100 you'll never see them give the foreigner 300. |

They had me riding a bicycle 4 times a day, 7 hours a week in the cold weather. They had me climbing 7 flights of stairs. On the 7th floor, exposed to the wind, with an entire wall of my bedroom was as a window, my electric bill was staggering. Meanwhile, the English teachers group leader was badmouthing me to the principal.
I moved out of the apartment and refused to teach.
I'm on the second floor of a hotel, I don't pay any electricity, they're driving me to the school, my salary has almost doubled, and the wicked witch of the west hasn't set foot in my classroom again.
Is that a good start? Your turn. |

I do not understand anything in this post.
If you were Chinese...what?
I am not clear on how what one guy does with his business in the UK is somehow related to ...anything really.
Is 300 30% of 100?
Am I missing something? |

I should have known someone would find a way to put a negative spin on a positive development. I'm still doing most of the work. Me and the education director of my employment agency and my teaching assistant. And we're still getting a tiny fraction of the wealth we produce. And the principal is still exploiting us and the parents. And he's still embezzling school funds. |

| When you play spin doctor for a criminal, everybody loses - except the criminal. And yes, there are safe strategies for all of us to get a much bigger piece of the pie. That having been said, I've searched so many job ads, downloaded so many documents, and wrote so many cover letters, I've got carpel tunnel. So I'm going to leave it here. |

ok. but you still haven't answered the 64-thousand-rmb question: is the
employer in breach of contract? are you required to work significantly
more hours than specified in the contract? are you being paid less than
the agreed upon amount? (climbing stairs is not an im-breach-able offense)
doubled your pay? moved you to a hotel? given you a driver?
sounds like you have one awesome boss! so thoughtful! bending over
backwards to keep you happy. if only everyone had a boss as wondrous
as yours! |
