Been offered a six and four rotation and 2K sterling a month in Libya.
Seems a good rotation money not brilliant. With all the trouble in Algeria it makes me think even more. They will not budge on salary.
Any thoughts?
What is the process for getting a visa nowadays? Is it easier than the old days? |

The money is not good but I guess that depends on your level of desperation! The rotation seems good at 6/4.
However the security question is valid considering what just happened in Algeria. Didn't they cross over from Libya into Algeria? I wonder what people on the ground have to say. |

Lousy salary - and to make it worse if you are UK-based, and spend more than 90 days in the Tax Year in the UK, HMRC will hit you for income tax ! |

You can be sure if they're offering that kind of paltry salary, that they will most likely not take your personal security very seriously. Expect an unarmed teenage/geriatric security guard who sleeps in a portacabin all day. Also, 6 weeks of working every single day, out in the desert, with probably minimal facilities? For the princely sum of 2000 pounds? Anyone who takes that offer clearly doesn't value their mental health much (or has already lost it!).
Insulting job offers: When we stop taking 'em, they'll stop making 'em. |

Depends where the gas field/oil plant is I suppose?
For this particular rotation job 6 and 4 sounds very good, only ever seen a 10 and 4 or 6 and 3 before myself.
Is your friend on this contract now or will it start soon? |

I've noticed that everyone seems to be amused by the salary on offer (2k pm) in the oil/gas building, but what about the schools/colleges where they are offering just 1100-1300pm. Should it not be more?
Just wondered.. |

Ras Lanuff is the home of Harooj Oil. I was there a few weeks ago. It is a port on the coast with no nearby villages, let alone towns. There's a refinery and a bunch of tanks. Accommodation is ok. Anything over 6 weeks is too long as it really is in the middle of nowhere. Nothing to do...nowhere to go. |

"Nothing to do" is a starnge comment. I heard it sometimes from teachers in KSA. There are always things to do - wherever you are. |

Nope. Been at another nearby oil company since 2004 on a 6 and 3 rotation...on double that salary. |
