Yep, but fewer and fewer students enrolled so ELS, in charge of part of the foundation program, had to send teachers to Sohar and other places. Of course ELS didn't help the teachers at their new places....
Additionally, I sued the University of Buraimi head of the English Dept. - not ELS affiliated - for sexual harassment and won. A miniscule amount, and I'm sure the two-weeks of jail time was reduced, but now he has a sexual offender conviction. (MOD edit) He does have a tendency to look at a woman's chest rather than eyes when talking to female teachers.
And yes, I lost my case against ELS even when I caught their lawyer in a lie. Arab Spring changes in governments do not include justice or court cases with foreigners.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Time heals all wounds. Try to remember the positives of your students and host country.
Just wondering whether anyone knows if the S.A. family team is still managing the GFP at Al Buraimi.
All the best. |

I just heard another teacher had a meltdown at U of Buraimi and has quit. Not sure if she was with ELS or the U of Buraimi English program. |

Sources have informed me the South African director is still running the programme, although his position is more or less a figurehead. All directives come from the University's CFS (Centre of Foundation Studies), and my sources tell me it's as poorly run as ELS' was the two previous years.
The overall impression from the place is NO ONE is happy there. It will be interesting to see what unfolds at the end of the current semester. |

Yeah, the South African mafia is there, but most teachers have been sent afar, with the lovely opportunity to work directly for ELS with their language schools. Not a pleasant experience, nor financially good. It seems ELS is breaking so many promises and laws, it's hoping the teachers will simply vanish - without ELS having to pay for plane fare, salary, etc.
The U of Buraimi also kept the Iraqi-Jordanian guy who now heads the English program, even though he was found guilty of sexual harassment. |
