I agree with LL, the whites-only thing is overblown. I'm Asian and have a had an excellent career here. The places that would exclude me I wouldn't want to be a part of anyway (language mills).

I find there is a lot of racism almost everywhere in the world, but for sure in the Chinese ESL market too... Blacks and Asians can only get jobs when there are no more whites left. I've been to places that would rather hire a French person with broken English than a black American...

Hey! I just got a blue car and since then I've noticed how many blue cars are on the road! I must be a trend setter!! Before now I rode a bike and never noticed!!

Obama, it looks to me, is probably more popular in Asia than Mr Bean, which is massive. I hate Mr Bean but am a huge fan of Obama. When I show pictures of either to my students they go wide-eyed and exclaim 'Obama' or 'Mr Bean' like it's the second, fecking coming. When I show Rowan Atkinson doing stand up it's met with blank stares and confusion. Confusing racism with lack of logic is a problem, I think.

One school I used to work for had a black female teacher with them for 3 years or so. I walked in and was paid significantly more per hour than she was. Somehow she found out and confronted the boss who told her...'the day you come to work as a white man is the day I give you his paycheck.'

...she also was not a native speaker though.

Either way, I did not stay there long. The person earlier who said they would not want to work for any school who hires based on race is spot on. Even if you are white, it can be a sign of bad things to come.
