Hi there Expats,

Can someone answer my question regarding tax reimbursement upon completing a contract of employment here in China? I'm aware of the tax treaty between my country and China, but I couldn't find any specific information regarding reimbursement after employment. If there is such rule, I was wondering if you can collect it each year after completing the contract (even if I renew for another year), or is it required to wait to collect the reimbursement when you are ready to leave the country for good? I appreciate if someone can assist me with this sticky matter......

Cheers,

Aaron

It would help if we knew which country you're from.

Tax treaties between countries allow income earners to avoid double taxation.

Many countries require their residents to pay tax on all income, both income earned within their country and income earned overseas. However, if tax has already been paid on overseas earnings in the country of origin, then the income earner does not have to again pay tax in their own country*.

I have never heard of anyone getting a refund from Chinese authorities, for income tax paid in China.

* some countries make income earners pay the difference between the tax they paid in the foreign country and the tax they would have had to pay in their own country.

How would this make it an income tax?

Op dinna specifically say income tax. could be the new social security
and retirement and healthy insurance tax - total around 11% of income.
8% is supposta be reimbursable when leaving the country.

if that's the case, nobuddy knows. hasn't been implemented in most
areas. in others it's still too new; nobuddy (i know of) has yet applied
for reimbursement.
