Yes, it's a bait line, but I am being honest.

I live in one of the coastal cities at a good uni. Good students, minimal hours and a hands-off admin (who never mess up on paperwork/visas/RPs, etc)

When I started with them a few years ago I had to teach at the satellite campus, which involved a bus-boat-bus ride to work (2 hours each way).

Now, from door (home) to door (class) it's 5 minutes on the bicycle.

So basically I could finish a class, stroll to the beach and have a swim. Vice versa I could sit on the beach , grab a meal and shower, and head to class.

I aint showboating (wait, I am). Anyway - where's your uni/language school/school/institution located? I'm interested to know your commute times and the general circumstance/s of your location, work-wise. Pros and cons?

Oh, and my weekend has started, on Wednesday evening..

I think there's nothing wrong with a bait post as long as it's honest and helps bring up discussion. I'm glad you're happy and found a great place to live and work.

When I taught in Korea before getting my B. Ed. I worked a three-week camp at an elementary school that was right on the coast, in between two beaches. The days and nights I spent there were among my fondest memories. I'd seriously consider living somewhere more rural for the nice weather and beautiful beaches.

I don't know of any international elementary schools located right on the beach in China; maybe I should look harder, haha.

Oh, how I miss the ocean. I lived the first 24 years of my life next to it, but now I am in Sichuan. Lets just say it is farther than 100m

17 km from the beach. that's 45 minutes by bicycle, riding thru
the pineapple plantations, or 45 minutes by city bus (3.50 rmb).
the bus stops at the front gate of the school, and will deposit us
25m from the beach.

remember that 17km is a good tsunami-safe zone. it is also
pollution-free.

taking the bus in the opposite direction for 30 minutes will get
us to the hot springs.

that same bus will get us to the super-train station in five minutes
for the 29 rmb, 45-minute ride to the lower level of haikou airport.

we've also got year-round swimming weather, which means
year-round bikini weather.

the school apartment includes utilities, which of course pays for
running the AC in the "winter."

our school has a cosplay club....imagine all those cute little sailor moons!

It's a Chinese beach right?

Therefore some toxic effluent from a nearby river/ factory/whatever is probably in the water.

They make China sound idyllic. I know it isn't.

Sure Chinese beaches aren't the best in the world, but I'd take a beach, or other scenic area over a dog-poop and toddler-poop park, or industrial zone any day. Money is a big concern, of course, but being able to enjoy the surroundings should count for a lot as well.

This school overlooks the rail station so we get to hear the noise of the horns every 3 or 4 seconds all day and night.On the better side It also overlooks the lake so we can go for a nice stroll around it. Not quite as inviting as a beach but sit under the trees.close your eyes and pretend you are at the beach.

Closing your eyes and pretending you're at the beach is like closing your eyes and pretending you're kissing a pretty girl.

The more you do either one the more you miss the real thing so you wind up just not doing it anymore.


...Are the beaches any good near Fuzhou (swimming, sight-seeing, etc.)?
