I was wondering if China has an age limit for work visas? I ask because some recruiters have on their sites that most schools prefer teachers who are not over 40. I'm 44.

The schools that only want FT's under 40 are typically kindergartens.
60 or 65 would be a more typical age limit for colleges and universities.

No.

If any place tells you you're too old, try somewhere else; you'll get something.

recently in Beijing I have had several colleagues tell me that they were refused continued contracts due to them being 55 or older....

hainan generally won't issue a work visa for teachers over 60.
