My place of work is less than 3 minutes on foot. If I forget something the 10 minute break between classes is ample time for me to return home and make it back before the next class starts. Its amazing how convenient that is on wet, rainy days or on the baking hot days when everything is an effort.

If I head in the opposite direction the famous Yangshuo countryside and karst mountain landscape is about 300 metres away. Although I dont go out on a bike as much as I should, it is nice to have it so close.

If I want to eat an Indian curry, pizza, Mexican, good old shepherds pie or pizza that part of town is a 20 minute walk.

Of course it's not perfect here ... a nearby dog that barks all night drives me crazy sometimes, but generally I would have to say Yangshuo is probably the easiest place to live in China!

Nice!

I knewI should not have read this thread.I love the beach.
I worked in Korea in Gangneung, and that is near the east sea. The beaches were so beautiful. The job was not very good, but not terrible. But it was heaven after work to go and walk along the beach.
Summer vacation will be here soon. I have a part time job nw and will continue july, but August is all mine to do as I please. Still decideing if I should go to the east sea in Korea for back to Bali, or some where where I can relaz for 2 weeks by the sea. Any suggestions?

Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philipines... Daiyou Islands.

We're only a few hours away from some pretty nice places. Tioman Island in Malaysia is the best place I've been to around here, totally unspoilt, tons of wildlife, great snorkeling/swimming/diving. But there's plenty more to go at.

Went sailing yesterday. That was fun. We headed out and circled one of the Taiwan controlled islets.

Yeah, all good in Xiamen in summer!

Well it's known for crime and prostitution.

I didn't see that much of that when I was there for a brief visit. In fact Dongguan looked nice. There was a central square and library (I think).

A very spread out city I think.

Still the beaches of Hong Kong are a day trip away I guess.

"DING, DING, DING!" ... You win the prize creeper1, and your other points are on the mark as well. I don't mind Dongguan and many areas in DongCheng are very nice.

Job seekers in the PRC usually fall into two camps: those who care about the location, and those who care about the job. Some try to navigate the best of both worlds.

Dongguan has some good areas and is changing rapidly. It is, as you say, a very large and spread out city, much like Guangzhou. The Lo Wu station in Shenzhen / Hong Kong is about an hour away by fast-train.

Yes, it's a bait line, but I am being honest.

I live in one of the coastal cities at a good uni. Good students, minimal hours and a hands-off admin (who never mess up on paperwork/visas/RPs, etc)

When I started with them a few years ago I had to teach at the satellite campus, which involved a bus-boat-bus ride to work (2 hours each way).

Now, from door (home) to door (class) it's 5 minutes on the bicycle.

So basically I could finish a class, stroll to the beach and have a swim. Vice versa I could sit on the beach , grab a meal and shower, and head to class.

I aint showboating (wait, I am). Anyway - where's your uni/language school/school/institution located? I'm interested to know your commute times and the general circumstance/s of your location, work-wise. Pros and cons?

Oh, and my weekend has started, on Wednesday evening..

Good for you. Enjoy your 5000RMB monthly dancing monkey salary.
