If you fancy Italy, check out summer camps through
http://www.aliceincitta.org
They offer about 300 euros a week + room and board.
This was recommended by a former student of mine who was studying Italian. |

The English translation of their tutor information is quite bad. But as I understand it they pay 250e a week Mon-Fri 8.15-6pm (with 45min break) but they take off 50e a week if you miss any training days in Milan.
It's something to consider, but after spending several days searching and researching work and filling out many laboriously anal application forms I seriously don't have the will to apply there (you have to plan 10 camp lessons and send them along with your application form).
Seems like a lot of work for little pay. To practically plan a summer camp course and provide own materials I'd expect to be getting DOS wages.
Am I just lazy? What do others think?

It pays pretty poorly everywhere except (some places in) the UK. That's the market. And they WILL get their pound of flesh. |

No doubt someone compiles the lesson plans from all the applications, and that's their low-budget version of curriculum planning!
It's an unreasonable request for a first application. If you were called for an interview and asked to prepare lesson plans at that stage--well, maybe. Still, LOTS of work, long hours, not much pay.

I once knew an IH school that required its applicants to compile not just 10, but an entire 4 weeks' worth of lesson plans gratis, as part of the application process!!!
A couple of young, earnest Canadians complied, and were totally taken advantage of. Their materials were the best they could offer, but though fellow teachers were sympathetic, they were basically unusable.
Didn't work for anyone involved. |

Mugs. Not that it's a crime to be a mug. There are a lot of them in this business. They could even be the backbone of the industry.
Essential to know when to walk away from a job, either at the application stage or after you start and it turns out to be a bum rap. Take for example the Polish IH currently accepting applications for split shifts with shared accommodation for a fraction under 400 Euros a month (1650 zl).
If it looks like the brown stuff and smells like the brown stuff, it's probably the brown stuff. |

Sounds gruesome, but each to his own!

225 euros a week plus food and accommodation. That's good pay for Italy right? |

By the way, has anyone (or knows of someone that has) worked for Berlitz? |
