Hello all, i've been working in China for 13 months now for a company which has 3 teaching centres in Guangzhou.
We've never had a visit from immigration at any of the centres in the whole time i've been there until last monday. The school have passed this off as an annual inspection but i'm not sure about it. None of the other centres were checked and it hasn't happened since i've been there so i'm wondering if anyone else has any experience of this?
I'm ok, it's not a problem for me to be checked but there are a few other teachers working there whose visa status is, um, questionable 
So has anyone heard about annual inspections for teaching centres or is this a new thing relating to the July 1st visa-geddon? |

Inspections have always happened but there's just so many schools that the odds of getting checked out are slim. That and inspection drives usually seem to occur around big events as part of an overall hunting down and roundup of illegals. Guess it's your school's lucky day coming up.

What's the July 1 thingy? The PSB doesn't really need an excuse to do an inspection. It could be a whim, looking busy for the new boss, complaints/rumors, a shakedown, or anything else. I haven't worked in China except for unis, and we teachers are probably more insulated than at mills, so I don't know if annual inspections are typical. Knock on wood, I've never had an authority check my papers in China.
Edit: except at the border, naturally. |

A complaint from a well-connected competitor might do it.
A nice dinner for a PSB high up, might be returned by getting the footsoldiers to turn your school over. |

| Personally I think you are worrying about nothing. If you are legal then who cares WHY the cops are sitting in the bosses office drinking tea? |
