For ESL teachers in Chile they say the price of living in higher than if you were to live in Spain.
Some ESL teacher have stated the price of living is substantially lower to live in Spain.
Is this true? |

I happen to like charts, they are easy to read and understand quickly.
It looks like from the chart that Spain is a higher cost of living.
But, interestingly that does not match the discussions that took place on some Daves forums about the cost of living in Spain verses Chile.
People were saying Chile was a higher cost of living.
On a Daves forum: There is an ESL teacher living in Spain that said she uses a third of what people are saying they need to get by on in Chile.
Hope to hear from those living in Spain or Chile or have lived in both to see what they think. |

Cost of living for someone spending money they brought with them? or the cost of living versus wages earned as an English teacher in each country?
I have never been to Spain, but after looking at the chart posted and reading the discussion in the Chile forum. I would bet it's cheaper for an American with dollars to spend to visit Chile. But I bet that a Native English Speaker teaching in each country does better in Spain than in Chile. |

Welcome back, Chica! I'm happy to see that your self-imposed exile has come to an end. Sixteen days without Dave's--phew!

And when I say done to be clear I mean done with daves.
I'm out, this is the exact kind of stuff I get tired to dealing with in forums. I will not be responding back.

And kudos to Mother, as well, for her graciousness in once again trying to provide you with helpful information.

Spain is expensive relative to wages at the private school level. Nevermind that a holder of US passport only can't get legal work there anyway.
If Chica is inquiring on her own behalf, Chile is the only viable legal option of the two. |

I am only interested in keeping forum discussions general.
And my hope is that what is discussed will be interesting my may have information that will help others - maybe.
Moving to and teaching in other countries is not only daunting and confusing, its damn scary.
Anything besides the subject at hand is out of place here.
We are all on the internet.
No one can see each other.
No one knows each other.
The only thing that happens when the subject matter is turned towards something besides what the forum is based on is that it hurts the forum.
The purpose of this forum is prices of living in Chile verses Spain.
Some people may actually like to know if Chile or Spain is more expensive and why people feel or know that to be the case. |

it would be best for you simply not post in my forums.
any pm's will be deleted from you.

Well. . . darn!
As far as I know, no poster requires permission from the OP to post in any thread, let alone any forum. I don't believe such a thing as thread ownership exists here, but should I be wrong, I will cheerfully refrain from posting in any and all threads that you own. (And not to worry! I promise to refrain from sending any pm's your way.)
Best of luck to you, Chica, in all your quests for information. Just remember that the picture you get will always be lopsided and incomplete if you are never willing to listen to or engage with those who disagree with you.
And I do agree with you about this: let us return to the discussion of "prices of living in Chile verses Spain." After all, one of my favorite verse-makers of all time was Chilean.

I don't know where she gets the idea that no one knows each other.
Anyway in terms of coolness Chile wins in my book, but it's been 20 years since I was last there, so things may have changed. |

I not only know some of Dave's regulars in reality, but I also know posters who have and have NOT gotten jobs based on the tone and content of their posts here. |

At first the original post was worthwhile subject matter that could help people.
But now not so much.
Thats to bad.
Forums should be for people hoping a good discussion comes out of the original posted subject matter.
Its difficult to exchange information at times because the forums get turned sideways.
Other people have stated as much in past pm's to me.
I will try to find the original links of forums discussing Chile verses Spain cost of living which should provide some useful information.
Other than that I don't feel theres a way to get this forum back on track.
Hopefully the chart will be enough listed above for basic price information. |

Some posters seem to think that equality doesn't mean all have equal rights to post.
That added, I am wondering which would be cheaper.
As to getting a visa in Spain, it is possible even as an American if you can show enough savings and other income (grants a one year provisional visa). |
