Everyone has a talent. I know quite a few of the teachers who have a talent (for digging up seemingly unrelated odd and ends and applying it to their classes Smile).

Some people are good at comedy (no, I mean really good as in getting paid to make jokes).

Some people are good at things that may be useful for teaching (or may not).

Myself; I am a fantastic whistler, though I haven't figured out yet how to do much with in class except to show off. No, I don't normally do classical music pieces, but rock and roll classics and some pop songs are quite easy for me to do.

What's your talent?
Is it useful for class? If so, how do you use it?

I'm really good with scissors. You know those folded paper snow flakes and chains of paper dolls and such. I'm dynamite at making those.

Good for teaching the language of processes. Razz

I'm an accomplished revolutionary. Great at stirring up the lumpen masses and getting them to demonstrate in the school reception area. Have quite a flair for catchy slogans too, and regularly organise banner-making classes for students, so they have something to brandish.

I can see some people don't have a talent for being serious, quite the shame.

I know one teacher who teaches drama here, has a flair for theatrical things. Another teacher has written a screenplay. The former would be useful for teaching drama and role-plays, the latter I am not so sure, but if you are teaching anything related with cinema production, it would be useful.

As to scissor craft guy, my wife is a whiz with origami, but growing up as a Japanese, it's not that unusual. She can also play the keyboard, which helps for teaching music, songs, etc.

Again, do you have a talent beyond the ordinary? Bad jokes aside, fess up, what is it?

In my nearly 20 years experience in this field, I think that is the most useful talent of all!

BTW, I, like most mothers, am female. Wink

A former colleague of mine was a very talented amateur magician. Her younger classes found this fascinating, and even the older hard-to-impress teens were usually impressed. She was a master at capturing their attention, but more importantly, was usually able to keep it until the end of a class.

My talents are small talk, schmoozing and pulling obscure half true bits of trivia out of my arse - not literally, that would be horrific - at the drop of a hat. Happily, i find these to be highly useful in the teaching world...

Believe it or not, small talk skills and schmoozing are valuable skills sometimes, though you have to be careful that those are not your only skills as if and when you get found out, the students may find that you don't have any teaching skills to speak of. Once word gets out within your school, your popularity may plummet and you will be finding yourself in need of a new job (or career, door to door sales anyone?). Wink

Great topic!
I think that my talents are: witting, miming and telling stories (kids only, of course) and jokes (all ages).
They're really helpful while teaching.
