Many of the job postings that I read asked for photographs with resumes. I have read the Forums and done searches for related information but I would like to ask more specific questions.
What kind of photograph quality is expected? Do I need a professional head shot or is a decent home-job good enough?
How does appearance impact employability in different countries and different job-types. Is it better to be young, old, pretty, handsome, plain, etc. What experiences have you had to shape your opinions?
How do ethnic backgrounds affects employment? I have read several Forum posts discussing the impact of ethnic backgrounds. Most of what I read suggests that it only matters if you are not a native speaker, but some things I read led me to believe appearance might matter as well. Is this something to be concerned about? |

American passport = AMERICAN. Leave the ethnicity out of it; not African American, not Asian American, not Mexican American... Just American.
Resume photos should be warm but passport style and professional looking. It's not a mug shot but not a party shot either.
If you are male then a shirt/tie would not be out of place.
If you are female then a collared blouse and jacket would be appropriate (at least for Asia).
A decent job with your digital camera at home is adequate but something from a $10 instant passport photo place would work just as well.
