Hey Guys,
I may be leaving China after the summer so want to see how I can bump up my salary before leaving. Ive heard that you can earn a lot of money doing summer courses here, for eg 25K a month plus.
Does anyone know how I can find summer work?
Thanks! |

25K a month??? Maybe you should be asking the people you heard this from!
I once had such a summer job, but it was teacher-training set up by my university in another province. Such jobs are few and far between, and surely they don't have to advertise them online. These opportunities are handed from teacher to trusted teacher by word-of-mouth...not to strangers on Dave's ESL.
Generally summer work is not plentiful nor is it well-paid in China. There are THOUSANDS of university teachers with no summer salary looking for jobs. It is not a teacher's market.
But good luck... |

It has been several years since I've had to work summer camps and I am SO happy about that! They are grueling (the ones I've worked at least) and, while I've had some really good, fun students in my memories, I've had some equally "bad" students who really, really didn't want to be there (don't blame 'em!). A couple of camps paid fairly well but 25K? I'd gladly go back to (summer) work if I could find a job like this! . . . well, maybe. |

Op unless you are starving for money you should consider doing some summer travel to countries in close proximity to China.
Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines -just to name a few of the countries I have visited during my breaks in China.
Places like Ankor Wat are worthwhile to see while you are in this neck of the woods.
Airfare to most of these places is about $300 usd - or less from China ( I go from Shanghai) for a round-trip.
Much better than working I think. Check summer airfares. |

New Oriental is one of the leading operators of summer camp programs. I have taught camp programs for them for the last three summers. I usually teach eight hours a day, seven days a week, for six weeks. It is possible to make over 50,000 RMB, if you insist on high hours. |

This could be a good option for me next summer before I leave China for good (?). I plan on this upcoming contract (starting July 1st) to be my last and to return home. Making upwards to 50K, albeit with grueling hours, may be that last button I need to have a decent amount of $$ to get me reintegrated back into my hometown. |
