Okay, we can all argue day and night on what is or isn't considered terrorism, but what's the point. I think that what we really should be concerned with as people living in or interested in living and working in KSA is what is the Islamic position on this. I mean what Bush or Bin Ladin have to say does not make it true. we should go to the source. I have fold an interesting link.

Quote:
Learn what orthodox Salafee Scholars say concerning the what has become widespread in contemporary times of the ideologies of terrorism, suicide bombings, and hijackings, protests and revolutions as independent means of reform and societal change, clothed in garb of Islaam and Salafiyyah. These are no more than the sickly outward expressions and practical requirements of the doctrines of the likes of Sayyid Qutb [the Fusionist of Alexis Carrel's "Barbarism", the Leninist Marxist "Revolutionary Vanguard Elite", and Mawdudi's "Raafidee Imaamate"] as exemplified in the actions of contemporary Takfeeri, Jihaadee and Khaarijee renegade sects, masquerading their actions as Islaam and masquerading themselves as Salafiyyah.

Dear Saudi4Ever,
OK, what's the big idea, trying to introduce reason on this forum? But I'm not really worried; it'll never catch on.
Regards,
John

Forget the Islamic position; the terrorists have. What we really should be concerned about is whether we're going to get blown away by crazies, and that does not depend on the Islamic position.

"The Islamic Position" ? You are suggesting that there is only one.

The enemies of modernity and reasonable Islam would have us believe that there is one truth. Truth is not so simple. There are many truths and many points of view.

Those guys who go around slitting throats and waging war on the rest of humanity are evil.

No, it is referring to the Americans who rebuilt Japan and financed the rebuilding of Europe after WWII.

You see, my dear usool, much of what we see really is a matter of where we stand to begin with.

For your edification, seeing as how some posters seem to identity
Islam with Terrorism:

Hey, I could go on and on and on - but this should give you some idea.
To condemn Islam for the actions of some murderous, misguided whackos is ludicrous. Hey, lets condemn Catholicism and Protestanism for what went on in Northern Ireland for so many bloody years.
Regards,
John

I think you're going a little too far, Mr. Slat. But do let's condemn the Irish-Americans who provided financial support to the IRA through those bloody years.

Dear Bindair Dundat,
Actually, I think it's others who are "going a little too far". Except that it's not "a little"; it's a lot. The ideals and precepts of every religion have been misconstrued and even perverted throughout history by zealous whackos who think they alone have a direct line to the Almighty and that anyone who disagrees with their interpretation must either recant his/her beliefs or die. But while such extremist fanatics claim to speak in the name of a religion, they no more do so than, say, the Unabomber's manifesto and actions were truly representative of the conservation movement.
Personally I'm a Deist, but I've known many, many Muslims whose beliefs and actions I admire greatly. These are, in my opinion, the real holders and upholders of Islam. And to tell you the truth, I'm getting more than a little tired of hearing and seeing the whole of Islam besmirched by the actions of a very small minority of demented idiots.
Regards,
John

I agree, John. In my years on the Arabian peninsula I met some simply fantastic Islamic men and women whose faith was a great source of strength for them and who wer simply wonderful humanitarians. I count myself lucky to know them and learn from them.

Fundamentalists are the problem (Beware the Man of One Book), not any single religion, and they exist everywhere and in all institutions, religious and non-religiious.

An American man being held hostage by al-Qaida in Saudi Arabia has been beheaded, unconfirmed reports said today.
The kidnappers of engineer Paul Johnson, 49, had threatened to kill him today if the kingdom did not release al-Qaida prisoners.

As the deadline approached, thousands of Saudi security officers backed by FBI agents were scouring the capital Riyadh for the hostage, while his family pleaded for his life.

Then at around 6.30pm BST reports began to emerge that al-Qaida had carried out its threat. The Arab satellite network Al-Arabiya had the first report that Mr Johnson had been beheaded.

Shortly later Reuters reported that the al Islah Islamist website claimed he had been killed and had a statement apparently from his kidnappers as well as photographs apparently showing his severed head.

A message on the site purportedly from the kidnappers said: "As we promised the mujahideen, we have beheaded the American hostage Paul Marshall after the deadline that the mujahideen gave to the tyrannical Saudi government passed".

The statement was signed by the 'Organisation of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula'.

Mr Johnson, an employee of the US defence corporation Lockheed Martin, was kidnapped last Saturday. He had worked in Saudi Arabia for 10 years.

In a video tape of Mr Johnson released on Tuesday night, the kidnappers said they would kill him in three days unless the Saudi government released all the militants in its prisons. The Saudis rejected the demand. Washington said it would use every appropriate resource to gain Johnson's release but would make no concessions.
