Dear Oman teachers,
For personal reasons, I've decided not to renew my contract in Indonesia. My last minute decision is to head to Middle East (Oman first?)
and try my luck. Anyone there with current knowledge of a "good" recruiter or job?
I'm an American, 5 yrs experience teaching english and igcse subjects. I have an online tefl and a bs in business mgmt. & communications.
6 epic yrs in Indonesia but leaving with a suitcase and little money |

For starters, you might do an Internet search on tefl oman to get a sense of required qualifications especially since you have a non-TEFL related bachelor's degree and online TEFL cert. |

Oman is one of the places that is now starting to require a related BA and none of the Gulf countries will recognize an online TEFL cert. Your chances of getting a job are slim... and it will certainly be at the bottom of the scale in a very expensive country.
I wouldn't give up your current job until you know if you have any options. Those with minimal credentials like yours used to be able to find positions in Saudi Arabia, but they have also started requiring a related BA from applicants.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still hoping to find a situation during the last minute rush to fill positions.
Qualifications are pretty lax in Indonesia. If you "educated" expats came here, you might take over. |

It is helpful to be in the right place at the right time. If you make yourself available you might be able to get in at the last minute. There are always positions around because of teachers backing out at the beginning of the semester. |

That doesn't overcome the fact that the Ministry will very likely not give you a work visa if you don't have the correct credentials... whether an employer makes an offer or not.
Do NOT trust recruiters doing last minute hires to be honest.
