The reason why they give those jobs to Eastern Europeans or teachers of any other nationality instead of employing Spanish teachers of English is because Spanish teachers of ESL really suck. I've been trained as a teacher of EFL in a Spanish university and now that I am in the UK I'm gonna take CELTA just because I don't even feel confident enough to go anywhere and say hey I'm an English teacher! And don't think it is just because I'm a terrible student or just stupid. I was probably the Spanish student with the highest level of English in my class when I was in university. Most of the students couldn't even have a basic conversation in English, and the lecturers wouldn't help much since all the lessons were taught in Spanish, even if they were about English grammar or phonetics.

And the reason why there are not so many native speakers who go and teach English in Spain... Well, just read news, they talk about ONE thing: recession. Jobs are not very well paid over there, my friend, especially if you are used to the British lifestyle.

Science? Not much science in the above post. Just sensationalism.

Well care to point out the sensationalism and we can debate it?

Examples of sensationalism?

"some bimbo from Halifax Nova Scotia"

"Polina from the Ukraine who, despite being barely competent, will win over a business class of horny male Spanish employees"

This is not a scientific argument - it is just using emotional extremes. And it manages to be both misogynistic and to cast slurs on an ethnic group.

Debate away if you wish, but I am not interested any more in pursuing this conversation. Neither are my scarily qualified Ukrainian colleagues.
