Hello,

I was checking on the Immigration website and have a question. It says that I need to bring in some paper (other than the application form) that says what type of part-time job I'm going to do.

How can I get this? If I want to teach one night a week doing business classes or something through one of the many private lesson companies, then what paper do I need? None of them will hire someone unless they have the special permit, so how do you get the special permit to get hired without some 'paper' that shows you are hired???????

Make sense?

Well, it would help if you told us what kind of visa you have.

I'm on an instructor visa. I would like to do some part-time to earn a little extra money. I also have vacation time during August, so I would like to work then as well.

I have the special permission on a dependent visa. I was also told I need to take my contract or proof of work with me, but I didn't have anything to take because I didn't have a job yet.

I just gave them the application form with some vague notes on it about the work I might do, how many hours I might work and how much I might earn. They didn't query it and just gave me the permit.

YMMV but I suggest you try the same thing. The worst that can happen is they refuse it and insist you have a contract before you apply again.

A lot of ALTs work on the side for places like GABA and I doubt they've all gotten permission from immigration. But some of the companies would have experience with this, so give it a shot and talk to the companies first.

I don't know about other places, but GABA wouldn't let me go beyond the initial interview until I had the permit.

So...for the people that have the permit, how did you get it? Did you have a contract from a part-time gig? Or were you able to get the permit without showing immigration some type of paper??????

No replies? So everyone on an instructor visa who is working part-time is doing it illegally?
