I got an offer from this uni. Does anyone know how it is to work there. You can choose if you want to give 18, 20, or , 22 lessons per week and they pay accordingly. It is in Xiasha, of Hangzhou, I believe. It is between this job and teaching at an elementary school in Bao'an Shenzhen. It is a hard decision because both places appeal to me. Also, I am a complete beginner. So, do you think one might be a better place at which to start? |

If you're a complete beginner, you might find teaching kids to be a complete nightmare. I would say newbies are better suited to uni work. |

Timer-- At this elementary school there is no Chinese teacher in the class with you because they believe in total immersion and think that students would talk to the Chinese teacher in Chinese too much. They have separate English classes taught by Chinese teachers.
I think I would feel less pressure beginning with kids, but I understand how classroom management could be more difficult with them. |

I taught part-time at Jing Rong (as ZFC is known). The Oral English classes are part of the International Business School and the students are mostly girls who will work in International and Foreign trade. The school provides a free lunch and the canteen is quite nice as are the Chinese teachers in this school. It is a 2 year college that is partnered with some of the banks in China. Most of the other foreign teachers are Americans. The life in Xiasha, which is a 30 minute plus subway ride to downtown HZ, is quite boring, so you will probably want to travel to Shanghai and other places in China on the weekends. |

Completely agree. New teachers should go for a University position. |
