He was taking pictures of riots... not really the safest place to be anywhere. I'm not saying I wouldn't do the same thing if I was in his position, but this could have happened anywhere in the world.

I think it was two years ago that two activist oriented women from the US were in the state of Oaxaca and went to support a union related activity. On the way they were taken out with a rifle by local thugs who opposed the union they were in support of.

Politics are often more complicated than they are presented in the press. I've often heard people's "analysis" of Mexico (just one of many examples out there) based on the fact their cousin went to the Yucatan and didn't have any problems on the four day visit etc., etc......so "Mexico" must be safe after all........

Really too bad for the kid and his survivors.
