We are conducting a survey of teachers who are teaching internationally. This will help us understand your work and working conditions. You can help us with 15 minutes of your time. Please respond especially if you are from UK, AUS. NZ, USA, CAN....

You'll get more responses if you explain who you are, what data you are collecting and why. I know it's on the information page once you click through, but a lot of people will be wary of clicking an unknown link, especially when they've been asked to divulge personal information.
This appears to be legitimate research with a proper university and funding behind it, telling people that will reassure them. |

You've divided Asia into three subsections, but the entire western hemisphere, half the planet, is "other"? |

One day, you might want to do research. Why not help other people?
Compared to some surveys, this was fairly short. |

I can say that it was short. Perhaps a coincidence but about an hour after doing this I got an email offering me a job paying 15k a month in Hong Kong (which I promptly deleted).
Coincidence? Maybe.... |

I suspect that it was a coincidence. I received no such job offer (unless my answers revealed me to be useless). |

ROFL...I did three years research with my Master's and spent four years in field linguistics, so pick me out of that box and put me in another mate. Believe me, I know how to prepare, compensate and provide feedback to sources.
And seeing as you asked why, there were some items that were badly designed on that survey. I started it but, after encountering a few of those, I decided not to complete it, because if a survey is badly designed it doesn't help anyone and in fact can be counterproductive. As someone who has been paid to do research and design many many surveys in the past, that is a good reason NOT to help in this particular instance. |

It may not have been brilliant but I've seen far worse, and they avoided the major sin of creating a long-winded questionnaire. Sorry, but I think you could be a bit more generous. |

I tried but there was no option for ESL teachers who are not currently employed. I would have used my most recent employment but I wasn't sure if that was acceptable.
Also, what MotherF said. |

My position was also non-standard, so I answered as closely as I reasonably could. Whatever... |

Well, it states it is for people who currently work outside their own country and I'm in Canada. I've been outside Canada many years ago but I'm not sure if that is valid or not. |

Santi84 - it depends on whether you're a Canadian or not! Assuming you are, then I agree, it wasn't really for you to complete. (Unless exercising your memory, I suppose.) |

I'd agree with Cole. I answered as closely as I could. |

see what I mean Cole? I'm sure that the survey creators did not intend people to answer "as closely as they could" but hopefully rather more specifically than that.
Well, at least they could use the feedback in this thread in their discussion as a weakness of their method. Now, that's being helpful and generous. |
