Just to be clear from the start, I am not looking to teach in China anymore. I have finished my latest contract, I have the exit letter, things are good on that end.

My problem is that I want to stay in China for about 3-6 more months. I am married to a local, so a family visa is the true goal. However I am having a lot of trouble switching my Resident Permit over and July 15th is when it expires. If things work out in Nanjing this week, problems solved, no big deal.

But time is running out, so I want to be prepared. I have been checking the how and what is needed to get a tourist visa in Hong Kong. Hopefully that will get me the time to sort out the family visa.

This is the website I found with the best information, I simply question if it is up to date. It also has the forms to fill out ( again I wonder if they are up to date).

My last question is, can you still pay with a debit card? I dont think they will take cash anymore, so it is either debit card or get a certified check somewhere first.

So if anybody has made the trip recently, please let me know how it went.

Ok, so that website is very out of date. I just tried to call most of the numbers there, all were disconnected.

Switching over to a family RP shouldn't cause any problems. Just go into the PSB with you wife and the document, fill in the paperwork and done.

I was just told that switching between any visa types (work to spouse visa for example) would require a trip to Hongkong.

This was in Fujian province by the immigration officer that I spook to briefly while renewing my RP.

Yeah, I got the same deal in Nanjing and Shanghai ( my work visa is from Nanjing and her work is in Shanghai). Both offices tried to pass off who could do things, but now they have both said they can't and I should go to Hong Kong.

Now I really do wonder if Hong Kong can is still doing things... or will they say I need to return to Canada.

If anybody has an updated contact for the Chinese Consulate in Hong Kong that would be a big help.
