So, I applied to Interac online and waited for their call. After two weeks, they called me at home at about 10AM. I was not home. My roommate took the call and told them I was not home and asked if he wanted to leave a message. The Interac rep said 'No, I will call back later'. At 1pm that afternoon, I got an email from Interac saying

".....Unfortunately, we are not able to proceed with your application at this time..... it is Interac company policy not to disclose the detailed criteria on which we base our hiring decisions....."

So, what's up with this? Why did they call?

I do not believe that they called to tell me I was disqualified.

I have four years of ESL teaching experience, a TEFL, and am about to receive my state teaching license...All of which they know.

I can only speculate wildly about what sort of sinister, mysterious agenda Interac may have. I am sure it involves near darkness and a lot of low, menacing laughter. Could be the recruiter got your name switched with someone else's on his to-call list. Could be he has tons of applicants and any who don't answer when he calls he just scratches off to simplify things. Who knows? You could just pretend you didn't read the e-mail and call them to check it out. "Oh, hey my roomate said that you called. Sorry I was out. How can I help you?"

See that as a blessing. That's a bad company to work for.

I've heard my share of horror stories too. The branch I work for seems fairly reasonable though. Totally hands off. A couple of easy reports to fill in a couple times a month, maybe a boring meeting or two to suffer through a term. They rip us off no more than industry average, maybe even less than some other outfits I've heard of. Beats slaving away for Jibun Mirai.
