So I get the contract for a Shenzhen job. I get the physical exam, wait for the results, inform the school I'm waiting for the results.
When I get the results, its July 3rd. I email the folks asking a question, ready to email signed docs. No response.
I've sent emails to the head HR. Nothing for a few days now.
Should I be scrambling to apply for other gigs? Is this the fearsome summer vacation blowback? |

You should always keep on applying until you have everything sewn up with a school.
Get yourself an insurance policy in case this outfit doesn't front.
I know a rant about feckless Chinese employers is in order but they do get a lot of sh*t from the FT side. |

"Communication" isn't the average Chinese employer's strong suit.
Not unusual for some schools to go a week or two without replying to messages or emails and then just receive something back saying "Hello dear, sorry we were in Guangzhou for meetings"....not sure if it's B.S or a genuine excuse, but as mentioned, keep applying for other jobs until you have a contract and letter of invitation in hand.
You may be right and they have gone home for a couple of months, in which case expect a rushed email late August about starting in 2 weeks. |

When I read the topic of this thread my first thought was 'wow, a school started communicating!
Don't give up on them yet. Send a follow up email, and then another a few days later. In the meantime it's always worth looking around. |

It could very well be the person you were talking with took a summer break or something. Or maybe isn't in the office as much since the students are out.
I agree that you shouldn't think it is a done deal until they sign some paperwork saying with their own Gov. saying they want you. Keep looking, just to be safe.
Or they need something signed by somebody higher up the chain and that person is taking a holiday... As was already said, FAO's are not always great with getting back to you in a timely manner. |

I agree. Keep looking for a job. Give the school until the end of the month. If you still don't hear anything, move on.
Are you working with a recruiter or the school? Sometimes, the school gives the recruiter a school email address, so you think that you are communicating with the FAO or someone in the office. |
