I've seen plenty of posts about getting to the country and discovering the job wasnt for you. this is about BEFORE i even leave.
i have an offer that is okay, but am waiting for replies from other companies. however the school that offered me the position wants me to sign a formal commitment right away.
what happens if i sign it but get a better offer in a few weeks? does breaking that contract mean i'll have to pay some sort of penalty fee? or will it just make me a jerk? |

Quite a lot depends on where (local norms and job market conditions), the specific company, and the specific contract.
We usually make an offer and give candidates a week or so to accept/decline/question/negotiate, but that's not typical worldwide. |

You should definitely break the contract and stay exactly where you are... |
