Hello,

This is my first post to the forum and any guidance would be most appreciated. I am a first-time teacher with a B.S. and a TEFL certificate and am preparing to take my first ESL teaching assignment this coming school year. I'd like to pick your collective brains about a few things.

Firstly, does anyone have any experience with Ihlas Koleji in Istanbul? I've searched for info in previous posts but haven't found anything.

Secondly, here are the general terms I've been offered:
- Salary "around 3000 L"
- 8-5:00 set schedule, total working hours 40/wk.
- No housing or travel assistance
- Work visa sponsored by school

Is this pretty standard or should I run fast and far? Also, these were details provided to me in an email, not an official contract. From other posts I've read it seems that this is general practice, but should I expect the contract to be lined up once I'm in Istanbul and have the work visa secured, or should I make certain that I have the contract before I hop on a plane?

Thanks in advance for any insight you may have!

Not much to say about the place, the salary is not low but not high either, you will need a third of it for rent at least, the hours should include prep time, office hours and meetings, any more than a six hour teaching day is not really on imho. Looks like you are on your own, but Ive seen worse

Thanks, sixthchild. This confirms my hunches. I suppose now I have to weigh this against some other options in other countries...Tricky business, but I'm getting excited about making the jump!
