I'm having trouble deciding where to live...they both sound incredible. Which city is your favorite place to live and/or teach English? What are the differences between them?
I would like to live in a city that I can safely explore by myself. I will stick out physically (blonde) and will only have 4 months of Spanish under my belt. Is one city better for this? |

First and foremost finding a job in Bogota will be much easier. You might have some difficulty getting a decent job in Medellin.
With that sad both are infinity better than any western countries / cities.
Bogota - cloudy/rainy weather, more educated/conservative people/girls, way more job opportunities, more nightlife options, higher pay etc
Medellin - great weather. top class city. tight job market
Id bypass both and try to get a job in Cali or Barranquilla if I was you. |

Walk around in normal populated areas.
You will get stares and heckled from time to time if you are average - good looking by the local guys.
Have thick skin and you will be fine.
Didnt realize you were a women. I take back my recommendations on cities. |

Can you? Absolutely. Would I recommend doing it frequently? No. Particularly not in Barranquilla. |

Really? You wouldn't recommend a woman walking around alone in Barranquilla? Barranquilla is the safest city in Colombia! Maybe if you're deep in the south, where it is more dangerous, but it is definitely the safest city to be in Colombia.
I have been to Latin American countries and I get hassled far less in Colombia than anyone else I have been. |

I love Quilla, but I am not sure id call it the safest city in the country.
What statistic or reason do you have for saying it is?
As of 07 the homicide rate per 100,000 population from Barranquilla (22) is only exceeded by those of Cali (57), Bucaramanga (32) and Medellín (30).
This might have changed alittle bit but im assuming still pretty much holds true. |

Except I'd have to say that recently Bogota has been magnificent with its sunshine. |
