| Looks like the lower paying schools are going to have difficulties in hiring teachers. Who would go through all this trouble and jump through all these hoops for 4500rmb a month. |

Hi Expat Teachers,
I'm looking into getting my CBR from the FBI. They require fingerprints from me, but since I'm in China, is it possible to have the local police department here in my city to perform them or is there an agency that offers such services? I've already researched the US consulate's site and they don't provide fingerprinting services (only for adoption purposes). I know you can download the form from the FBI website, but they don't say anything about where and how to obtain the fingerprints for those of us abroad.
Any thoughts?

Honestly, I don't think the FBI background check is necessary. I was open to going anywhere in Asia that paid at least $2,000 USD/month plus housing, and thought I would end up in Korea, and got an FBI check at the end of February. In mid June or early July my school in Beijing asked me fro a criminal background check, I thought great, this is less than 6 months old, it should work. They sent me an email telling me that my FBI check had gone stale, but told me I could simply go to the local police and get a criminal check. I went to my local Sheriff's office and got a police check, which apparently is enough. I am not quite sure why a county wide report is more valuable than a 3-4 month old nation wide background check.
So, you could probably find a service on the internet that does state and local background checks that doesn't require fingerprints that will work. |

You could provide information from Intelius. It would be more comprehensive because it has information on people even if they move from one state to another. A local police check might satisfy someone in China who is not familiar with American mobility.
There are companies that provide CBCs that have access to all public records nationwide. That's probably your best bet. |

I'm a little bit confused as to what stage they require the check:
a) When the school applies for the invitation letter?
b) When I apply for the Z-visa at the consulate?
c) When I apply for a residence permit in China? (when I convert the Z-visa)
I'm new to China and the school that has contracted me has said nothing about a criminal check. The school is in Guangdong, not Beijing, which may have something to do with it. |

| I welcome the idea, hopefully it weeds out some of the garbage that arrives in China, looking for an easy gig and easy girls. |

Since you're not in Beijing, you might not need one. Wait and see what the school says. In Beijing the check is required for new applications and is required when the school applies for the work permit / invitation letter. |
