I've got a master's degree in planning, and an undergrad in environmental science. I have teaching experience, albeit not in English.

I'd like to teach in China, although I don't know which region.

What jobs can I expect to get? Should I apply at Universities? What sort of salary/benefits should I expect?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Rob

Both highly important in China but I think finding a job teaching these would be difficult here since they wouldn't know how to fit it into the curriculum. Would it be considered an extra credit class, only English speaking students, who would translate? Probably too much trouble for them.

Good luck!!!

A master's degree and teaching experience usually means you should be able to apply to just about any job. Your salary, as with everyone else in China, will probably seem pretty paltry just looking at the numbers, but it goes a lot further.

I agree, because i dont have a degree you have a better chance than I do of finding work at a university. The thing is that the wages offered at unis tend to be the same if not lower than working at a primary school. I've only been here a year but from what I've read on this site the money seems to be better (not in every case) teaching kindergarten and primary. As was stated above there is no specific position to look for, take what you can get for the best wage you can find because like the rest of us you'll be working for somewhere between 5000 and 10,000rmb. I think in the general esl field a degree gives you a ton more options, unfortunately not in China, but thats my own opinion. good luck!
