I've generally heard that some of the larger, privately owned education companies that run chains of schools are good places to work if you want to gain experience from the ground up? (Seen ads for WSI, EF, etc., which I believe fit this description iirc)

What is the working environment like in these kinds of institutions and what should a new teacher know or expect?

It's impossible to generalise, the differences between countries are too great. Someone's experience with say, English First in Saudi Arabia, would be almost incomparable with EF in Colombia. Even within a country there will be a huge amount of variability between individual schools.

Which countries are you looking at?

Looking largely for jobs in mainland China as well as Hong Kong and Macau. However, I'm taking other locations into consideration as well. I have also been looking around at jobs in Indonesia, although I don't yet meet the age requirement (or the legal requirement that one must necessarily have a degree in English) that Indonesia's government pushes, so probably won't apply for anything there.

Then you would probably be better asking in either the General Asia Forum, which covers them all, or the individual country forums. You will get more specific local advice there.
