First went to Karpacz in 97 and yeah it's nice....but for a little more you can go to Austria, which is another level of skiing.

Poland is 'nice' and we all know what that means....it's certainly not a place I would hype as a tourist destination.

OK for a city break...that's it.

Different strokes for different folks.

We should divide holidays into different categories so this is more informative for people. Saying something is 'nice' doesn't really provide any info at all. Nice for who? Saying it is nice for parties or for interesting history or of adventure sports is much better.

I think Gdansk is great if you like looking at old buildings, strolling along the waterfront and sipping coffee or beer in an outdoor cafe. Parties are good on the weekends, but most places are pretty dead on week nights, especially during the winter months. There are loads of events in the summer time which attract lots of German, Polish and Scandinavian tourists.

Sopot's very chilled. The flat's lovely and we've been to some good restaurants. I particularly like the Thai Thai Restaurant. The seafood joints have also been pretty good. The beach is perfect and really not so crowded. It's a lovely place for a couple. We've got the Italan buffet at the Sheraton tomorrow night. The spending has been fierce.

If you have to watch your pennies a bit, the best way to do this place is to rent a room (there are thousands), eat fast food and chill on the beach with wine bought from a shop. It's also a good idea to bring a bike. So far an average 'sit-down' meal for 2 has been in the $80 region and that's not drinking more than a carafe of wine. The cheaper, fried fish places tend to serve meals at around $8 plus drinks. There's something for every budget here.

Uh, do you mean 80 zl? If you're talking 80 USD, then you're obviously cherry picking very expensive places.

I was in Sopot in January and paid about 85 zloty for a halibut meal for 2 with a couple beers at Bar PrzystaƄ. Really good fish there. Why pay more?

Przystan is the place to go. The lines get a bit extreme in the day but the food is good. Also agree with Sharter about the beach drinkin'. Why pay 12 zl for draught Zywiec in a stinkin' beer garden when you can sip Namyslow from the bottle with the sand between your stinkin' toes Smile

Shake read what I wrote. We've wined and dined a bit Toscana was just over $100 and the Thai Thai place has averaged around $80, all this is for 2. There are actually loads of fish places. The one you mentioned it just way too packed for me and the missus. We had a great piece of cod and some calamari for 65Zl on the beach today at Bar Baltica. We've been lucky with the weather. Our best evenings have been the cheap ones on the beach with a bottle of wine etc etc although the fancy restaurants were good. Next time we're bringing bikes. Off parasailing tomorrow. The sea is warm....I kid you not. Nice romantic little town.....just stay away from the 'Molo' area. You can spend as much or as little as you want. The week's cost just over a thousand pounds....all in.
