I think you can find all of these varieties as so far explained in any given city. But I appreciate OP's attempt to explain it. |

Bull feces. Most things I do are not revolving around a potential relationship or for sex or whatever. Those are things that, while enjoyable, are not the driving force in my life. I'm looking to earn a good salary and make myself as financially comfortable as I can for the present day and for my future retirement years. I'm looking for cool travel opportunities. I'm looking to have good, solid friends. I'm looking to lose weight and be healthier. None of these are remotely geared toward pleasing a woman. These are for selfish ol' me! Not everyone, OP, thinks with their small head instead of their big one! |
Like it or not, accept it or deny it, a species' purpose, and only purpose of existence is to propagate. Life is truly what happens between copulation.
Sadly, you won't: become financially comfortable, lose weight, have cool travel opportunities (outside of simply living in a foreign country), meet good, solid friends(try transient and backstabbing) and definitely won't become healthy teaching English in CHINA.
Please don't teach if this is why you want to teach. You will end up disappointed. As cynical as I sound, I do enjoy the "Ah-ha" moment of students when they finally breakthrough... |

Hmmm, you don't know me at all I guess. I've been teaching in China for 10 years and have become financially comfortable (due to teaching in China). The only backstabbing and transient friends I've met have been some foreign teachers I've had the misfortune of knowing. I've traveled all around southeast Asia and have enjoyed most places I've visited. This is in thanks due to the proximity of my current residence in China (cheaper to get there) and the money I make that lets me afford it. Lose weight? Well, no, but that's not the fault of living in China. I think you've had a rough go of it and are projecting your downfall to all those around you. Too bad for you. |

Ohi...Going to try to answer the question.
There is no central agency that does anything in China, far as I can tell...except maybe manipulate the currency. Just not that organized. Remember, there's like a billion people in an area the size of the moon here. Most stuff comes down to regional.
RE: Medical abroad and here. This was my situation when I came here several years ago. While abroad, had to go to a hosp that was preaproved by the Chinese govt. There is a list. Had to get the gov'ts forms filled out in Chinese. There are definite specific forms they want. This was in Korea, so not entirely impossible. (protip: International hospitals don't always mean "English") Sent the docs in, got visa.
Once I got here, they looked at the doc again (go figure). If there was anything they didn't like/decided was missing I'd have to get it redone here. Fortunately, my stuff was all good. Some people in my incoming group had to get xrays done or something.
Make sure you have the exact forms they want, and don't just go to some clinic and get a form that says "He ain't got the aids" in English. Make sure you go to a place that is recognized by the gov't, and not Mr. Kang's back alley clinic and ddokbokki stand. For some reason, even with all the dodgy stuff that happens in China, medical checks for laowai are not something they play around with here. Basically, don't give them a reason to say no.
This was in Beijing. Your region may vary. Hope that helps.
Also, my two jiao, for young single guys (and some older not so single, heh) availability of desirable women is obviously going to be a factor in your decision to pick up and relocate your life. Nothing wrong with that really. |

Hmm... When I was in Korea in 1998 - 2001, I made 6k USD a month working at a hagwon / uni and doing privates. Bought me a coop in NYC, but now the pay in Korea is less than what I made there 15 years ago. So, the industry has declined.
You have met great people, really? Except for your coworkers, u mean... and u currently pal around with all the great friends you made with the locals in the other countries? I don't know what you think is good money... I know that I make more with online businesses than with teaching in China.
Chinese food is fatty. I love when they say Western food is junk food, but chaofan is healthy... I always lose weight in Asia... seems the ones that gain weight are mostly big drinkers.
You've been on the circuit for ten years... why DO YOU STAY? |

About the medical check, if the school wants it then you must get it for that school. Quoting the laws means nada.
If you don't want to do the medical check, find another school.
I had an offer from one school, the one I eventually chose, that wanted a medical check. Everyone told me I didn't need it. I got it anyway and got the job. I also did interviews and demos and people thought I was crazy.
Say, if you know any other frigging magically delicious ladies, PM me.

Complete bollocks. If the BS multiplies anywhere, it seems to be within this thread. Then again, if I was navigating the world via my genitals, perhaps I would be equally jaded. |

The BS multiplies at the start of the thread. But years of experience told me that.

You came to China to get laid?
You came to China to make money?
You came to China to lose weight?
You came to China to see culture?
All of these things, at times and looked at from different perspectives sounds utterly ridiculous. (Hint: they can be done in your hometown) Yet they are personal truths, shared by many and the chances are for a person not too old and not too young, that there is a deep combination of factors for coming to and staying in such a land.
Strangely enough I have never heard of a foreigner coming or staying in China because of the mental stimulation to be found in the local coffee house, art scene or cutting edge tech cliche. |

I had the hilarious situation today of the perfect example of Chinese BS.
When people are manipulating you, the BS just comes in thick and fast.
Example, an acquaintance wanted me to meet his daughter and to talk to her about studying law in the UK, but he knew I was tired.
'How far is the coffee shop?'
'Only about 15 minutes maximum, it's really close to your house.'
So I have the address, go outside, and there's no taxis[changeover time], but a motor bike comes over...tell him the address.
'How far?'
'SO FAR! At least 30 or 40 minutes, that's why you must pay 40 rmb.'
What a joke. |
