| 798 Art area located in Beijing along with Cao Chang Di (my favorite) and and a few others.....Hei Qiao also has a lot of artist and a sport bike builder who supplies the local and expat racing crews. Songzhuang and Tongxian are located not far from Beijing and have affordable art spaces....Jiuchang, Caochangdi, Huantie, Heiqiao and 318 International Art Village |

Shanghai and plenty of other places are doing something similar. Even if you don't love the art, and hate the money etc. it inevitably brings in, it is part of a wider conversation that is happening here if you are willing to listen closely enough:

| Also 741 is attached to 798 and isn't connected to the same investment group so there are coffee roasting factories and a BMW motorcycle and accessories shp among other things....on the other side of the city is Gulou where guitar shops and coffee shops abound. Hutongs with small bars and Mao House live where local acts play. All good reasons to cut though the pea soup that is Beijing and hang out among the mentally stimulated |

| Sadly, you won't: become financially comfortable, lose weight, have cool travel opportunities (outside of simply living in a foreign country), meet good, solid friends(try transient and backstabbing) and definitely won't become healthy teaching English in CHINA. |
Hmmm, you don't know me at all I guess. I've been teaching in China for 10 years and have become financially comfortable (due to teaching in China). The only backstabbing and transient friends I've met have been some foreign teachers I've had the misfortune of knowing. I've traveled all around southeast Asia and have enjoyed most places I've visited. This is in thanks due to the proximity of my current residence in China (cheaper to get there) and the money I make that lets me afford it. Lose weight? Well, no, but that's not the fault of living in China. I think you've had a rough go of it and are projecting your downfall to all those around you. Too bad for you. |
Yawn. Yep. And I run a business in China that contracts to the government and I have three paid for houses (yadda yadda yadda). |
