Just hit Saigon, am in the Pham. Managed to connect with a long-timer (not on this board) and get the ball rolling with resumes passed out to American Academy/Cleverlearn, VUS and a couple other schools whose names escape me now.

But I remember reading that many say to just connect with other foreigners. In Japan, we had places like the HUB or The Pink Cow to network. So where would be a good place to do similar in Vietnam?

You're in "The Pham." That is where many foreigners go, but now they are more dispersed in D7 and near the new collection of bars.

You can get info at the Pham: The wider alley, and Santa's.

As for the New Hellnoian, that is for Hanoians and not those in Saigon The Saigon portion of that place is dead.

Welcome.

And seriously, be careful about American Academy akai AA or AMA, and beware of Cleverlearn.

Surprised Shocked

One place nobody mentioned yet...

Huong Vy restaurant located at 177 Pham Ngu Lao.

There's always a few TEFL'ers hanging around, drinking a few beers or having a bite.

If a school in VN had enough students for two classes they would hire two teachers and be on the prowl for a third. It's highly unlikely that anyone is going to tell you where they work or any place they might be stalking for work. This is not Japan. Work is transient and hours are accumulated through hard work scouring the streets for schools. That's why there is no place where foreigners hang out and share info.

Use the net, google is your friend, hit the pavement and hand out resumes. Don't waste your time and money at the bars in Pham Ngu Lao. Except for recreation of course.
