A recruiter has sent me a package from a military university in Changsha.
Has anyone any experiences pertaining to life and work at such an institution? |

Is it NUDT?
I recommend joining the 'What's New in Changsha?' Facebook group, it's active and will be the best place for information. There's a recent discussion about NUDT, the consensus seems to be it's a good place, but draconian with their visitor policy. |

I worked at a maritime U (Dalian) expecting it to be wall to wall sailors. No comments please!
Because of the way the Chinese U scene has developed over the years many names are no longer a good descriptor of what is taught.
Look for the majors and that will give you an idea of how 'military' it really is.
In 3 semesters at Dalian I taught one 45 min period in the navigation school.
The rest were English or Computer Science majors. |

I worked with a couple who, before coming to us, had worked at a military university in Changsha (but I am not sure which one). They said it was a bit far from the city centre and the school was a bit strict about coming/going and having visitors etc. So as suggested might want to check this out via local expat websites or whatever to make sure it is the right place for you. They didn't really enjoy it that much, from what I can recall. |

It turns out I can't work for this outfit because I previously worked in Taiwan.
I have to say, my job hunt has been hugely unsuccessful thus far.
Recruiters keep sending me positions from Beijing and Shanghai, two places that I'm really not interested in.
Too many hours and a high cost of living are just simply not appealing to me.
I'm not quite in panic mode just yet but that sinking feeling isn't far off. I can feel it. |
