It's that time of year when we rest for the winter so I'm re-posting this from the Business sticky:

Okay, if there are any independents up this way (Gdansk area) who are looking for some options, give me a PM or Skype me. I prefer North Americans but maybe I can be persuaded to consider others.

I will be opening a classroom location in the Old Town area:

* seats up to 12 comfortably
* convenient to a tram stop about 100m away
* two whiteboards - 1 medium, 1 large
* WI-FI
* projector unit with large screen

This is not an apartment, entry is direct from street and includes a toilet, coat rack area and high ceilings.

We can work out a partnering agreement or go straight rental of the location on your schedule.

NOTE: No visa support through my company is available at this time. You need to establish your own legal situation.

If anyone has a contact for wholesale books (TEFL Materials or mass market books in English), I'd appreciate the info via PM.

I have a buddy in Poznan who runs a second hand book business. Novels etc. Is that any good?

Potentially.

I am looking for novels printed in English as well as a source for ordering curriculum mats and support references. In Ukraine there was a national level wholesaler but Longman doesn't respond to inquiries about a Polish distributor.

Right now I need IELTS materials and probably New English. Some reference dictionaries, a few wall posters and the like would be handy as well.

I thought they were more business-like, but........

My friend's business only sells novels in English and he's based in Poznan but it's an online thing. He's got thousands in stock contact [email protected] , so if anyone's looking for cheap second-hand books in English, look no further.

You should write directly to publishers, some of them have excellent deals for steady customers.

You can get the catalogues from all publishers and order online. Most ELT bookshops will do discounts for teachers even on one or two books, so if you're ordering a schoolful they'll probably sort you out.

As I indicated up above, one would indeed think that, yet no responses to the email contact forms on their websites from either Longman or Penguin.

Why not download pirated pdfs of famous course books and use them? Many can be had and you can download the audio too. You could also buy 1 book at each level and get them to copy the books; I've seen it done. Alternatively, do some research into Chalkboard the digital blackboard software. Students might be able to hook up to your PC wirelessly. I haven't used it, just heard of it.

I would personally go the pirate route, but you can also check out the publisher's websites for wholesalers For example:

http://www.macmillan.pl/index.php/ksigarnie/pomorskie/257-pomorskie

You might be able to get some discounts that way.

Polanglo have bookshops all over Poland, including Gdansk. They would seem like a good bet.

Yeah, I know about Polanglo but was looking for the warehouse for quantities and availability. The discount is all well and good, but not the major thing. I just hate piecing things together for an order.

So far, they appear to be the only game in town. I'll check if they can fulfill and time period. Will see.
