Hi. New to the UAE forum and looking for a bit of guidance if possible.
It seems that all of the recent postings concern teaching kids in schools. Does anyone have any experience in teaching Business English for adults here in Dubai? Perhaps in language schools or privately. The reason I ask is that I clearly won't make the grade for the school/uni teaching positions which seem to demand MA's and multiple years of experience. I on the other hand have just one year of experience, the CELTA, a science background, and work experience across a wide variety of organisations (NGO, government, private sector). I'm also here on my wife's visa so part-time work is possible without sponsorship. If anyone is working in this area and can share some thoughts I would be very appreciative. |

Unlike Asia, this isn't a common situation in the UAE. I've never encountered anyone doing this outside of Egypt. Perhaps it isn't as common as English is already the language of business in the Gulf, and the locals are not looking to work in an office or retail. I suggest that you directly contact any local language schools as that would be where they would tend to be. I don't expect the pay would be stellar, but you should be able to make contacts for eventual privates.

Some of the various country specific (i.e. the Iranian Club) arrange classes for their member nationals at their facilities.
Probably the larger, better organized groups would hire part timers. However, the hours would be after business (for business English) so if you have a family that might be a consideration. |

That sounds hugely off putting, somehow.
