That's a good way to get yourself lynched in Singapore.
But I hear they don't hate their previous colonial masters (the British). Funny thing, that... |
Yet Malaysia was quite anti-British for some time after colonialism. "Buy British last!" was a slogan under Dr. Mahathir Mohammad. India, on the other hand, seems to express both pro- and anti-British opinions. Particuarly about the English langauge and democracy. |

The British Empire is hated quite vehemently by many in the world. From sections of Scottish society to the Americas. Even in place where the empire bestowed benefits like railways and bicameral parliamentary government, liberalism and a free press.
However, seeing as Singapore itself is a creation of British imperialism it isn't too surprising that there is less anti-British sentiment there. Even so, given the failure of Crown forces to defend Singapore, the locals are no longer as impressed as they were with Britain. |

Honestly I think the Japanese occupation / colonization would have been more like what happened in Africa - not necessarily laying the basis for a sustainable future.
French colonies essentially wound up being disasters because of ruling policies. A lot of people might complain about living in former colonies, but this basically blaming others for the failure of post-colonial leadership (see Argentina, for example).
Japan has always been nationalistic. One of the problems is that politicians in Japan are basically idiots (voter turnout is fairly skewed towards certain groups). |

| Alternatively, Japanese colonisation could have been more akin to what happened in North America - wipe out most of the original population, and dispossess the rest. I think most posters would agree that that led to a fairly sustainable future for the empire-builders, despite the horrific human costs. |

Well, the original colinization of Japan followed that pattern.* People came from the Korean Penisula and wiped out the Ainu.
*So did much of human history. |
