I have never actually met anyone who decided to go to Saudi Arabia and then proceeded to get the qualifications needed to get a job there. Everyone I knew ended up in KSA by accident. Including me.,

The type of major that you want depends on where you want to teach. A lot of really good places will require K-12 experience. You might want to go in that direction. For instance Taiwan, which is a good place to teach requires licensing in your home country. International Schools that are realwill require K-12 experience. I really would not obtain an additional degree for the purpose of working in Saudi Arabia. If you look at the threads on the board, it's difficult to get in unless you have an English or related degree, at least if you're from North America. An online degree is not what you want to get, anyway. Why? Because Master's degrees among ESL teachers is becoming more and more common. There might come a time where they will examine your degree and sort of say, 'look another online degree'.

and I took a Master's in Applied Linguistics/TESOL because I wanted to keep two options open: field linguistics and getting a well-paid job in TESOL. I've done the first, now I'm doing the second.

But, as Scot says, when I started my Master's over a decade ago, I didn't say, "I want this to teach in Saudi." I said "I want this to teach."

Yeah I guess I am trying to force the information of a system to follow, but it seems there isn't really any set program to follow. I mean, there are some general regulations, but I guess I am just going to have to complete my MA and hope for the best.

Thanks everyone for all the information. It was much appreciated.

Is it the same for Dubai as well where they don't accept online study?

The programs are cheap, but the cost of living, and rent and everything else is high, and factor two years into that. I think that's the attractive part about studying online, is saving.

This topic has been discussed on the general Mid East forum. See "Distance MA TESOLs being refused in the Middle East" (http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=100919).

I suggest you scroll through the other discussion forums in this section since so far your questions have previously been addressed.

The best MAs are from the Shaolin Temple.
