Their name is "Foreign HR"? There's an "HR China" that is good.

This is a Chinese company owned and operated by Eric Liu. Check the various CTA, CFTU, and various ESL/TEFL blacklists and you will have your answer.

There was a thread a couple weeks back about them as well. Eric Liu is an ok guy...but he will take advantage if he gets a chance. If you want to work through him make sure you negotiate everything clearly with them.

IMPORTANT...

If you choose to use any agent or recruiter in China, including Foreign HR, we highly recommend that you cover your butt and use this form letter so that you protect yourself from ID Thieves and unethical practices used too often by recruiters and agents who do not even use their real names on contracts.

Agents that are honest will usually not object to providing the information you request via this form letter. If they do, go elsewhere and do not provide them copies of your passport, visa, and only use a first name on the CV you send them until they return a letter with all your questions fully answered. Then you can verify the data provided.

Good luck and we hope you enjoy your stay in China. When you get here look us up for a free cross-cultural orientation and Chinese lessons.

I understand the need to have this information but the letter sounds quite negative. If I were an employer, even a legitimate and ethical one, I would view this letter as quite off-putting. Have you ever had a recruiter send this back to you with their information?

Honest agents in China are proud that they are and we actually get about 30-50 inquiries a day from teachers who want help verifying the information they received on the replies. But we did a little test of our own last year and sent out this letter to 100 agents we found operating online using a resume of one of our volunteers. Only 9 letters came back completed. But to be fair, most of the email addresses the agents were using 126.com, 163.com, sina.com, yeah.net, qq.com, or hotmail.com emails. Need I say more?

BTW... you don;t need us to verify the info, SAFEA will actually help you but they take about 10-14 days to reply. In one day you can get the info yourself at these links:

1. Shanghai AIC: http://www.sgs.gov.cn/lz/etpsInfo.do?method=index

2. Beijing AIC: http://qyxy.baic.gov.cn/zhcx/zhcxAction!query.dhtml

3. Guangzhou AIC: http://www.gzaic.gov.cn/GZAIC_Portal/WebUI/credit/qiyeInfo.htm

And yes, the letter was written deliberately in that tone since it is beings sent to AGENTS & RECRUITERS not direct employers and in part it also serves as a warning to the fake recruiters and id thieves that they are being searched out and exposed if they try to cheat the applicant.

Since u did the test, how many of those nine proved to be truthful and the information provided was correct. How many did you do a follow up on as to the job offered and were any candidates selected in this process....

Looking at that form, seems like most of the information doesn't matter... you set terms and then agree to terms .. get paid ... now while I don't have anything against the union, I would never join one as I find most people do not consider important what I do and due to this disparity of expectation, I would prefer to handle these kind of negotiations on a one to one basis and to tailor my demands to fit the situation. For example, I don't ever negotiate anything but payment while others seem to be adding benefits to total the amount paid.... I like money .....

Another personality.....same ole spam!

Use the letter if your goal is to have your resume end up in the garbage.

not true!

according to the survey results, only 91% of resumes went into the garbage.

apparently 9% of recruiters are truly disparate.

You raise a very good point... I did some checking and of the 9 that came back 7 gave truthful and accurate information that checked out to be true.
Should we therefore conclude that 7% of China agents and recruiters are honest and ethical? BTW... we maintain a list of names, emails, and photos of dishonest and/or unethical agents/recruiters as reported by our teaching colleagues at this link: http://www.chinaforeignteachersunion.org/2012/12/china-foreign-teachers-union-posts-esl.html Our belief is that it is better to prevent a problem before it starts costing a teacher grief, time, and money.

We also agree that teachers should handle their own negotiations with the direct employer because housing and visas are just as important as money to some teachers.
