New campus; no accommodation on site. Consequently, I'm screwed.

Mon. 4 hour break, Th. four hour break, Fr. five hour break. All classes start at 8 and end at 6.

Long day--paid for 18 hours/week. Sucks big-time.

I'd be looking for a new job.

Nothing worse than a Swiss cheese schedule, either.

A-freaking-men. After all my years here, the one thing that makes my blood boil is that sort of schedule. I'd rather just teach extra classes then have to sit there not getting paid.

Yes, I knew that there was no housing on-campus, but did not know the commute I'd be facing. Aw, I guess I just wanted to whinge a bit. It really sucks that I could be making money elsewhere with all that down time.

Others at my school don't seem to have the awful schedule that I do...I'll see next semester, and if it's like this again I'll move along. Heck, may well do that anyway at the end of this one, come to think of it...

Actually a possible scenario would be to ask a particularly awkwardly timed class if they are available at a better time.
Then go to Admin/FAO/Teaching Affairs as a defacto joint teacher/student approach and ask for the change.
If you suss an unused classroom at your preferred time that could be part of the package.
Just nutting off about poor scheduling, doesn't put your Chinese colleagues in a good frame of mind, not to mention loss of face.

I was to teach the sophomores, but my department head said they were disgruntled from poor teaching last year. I told him I would teach the freshman instead. He agreed.

I arrived on campus a week before classes started with my previous school's salary and bonus in hand. The freshman arrived two weeks later and are still engaged in military training for 2 weeks. I've already been paid a month's salary here and classes don't start until the 26th. I've basically had a month's paid vacation.

I have 16 periods when classes start next week. Very Happy

a lot of Chinese girls really wear bikinis? Or are you talking about fat Russians squeezing their lard into swimsuits they have no right wearing?

no russians on our beaches! they're all in sanya. along with the fat
germans with their beer bellies covering most of their speedos.

mostly one-piecers, or miniskirts and high heels, longish doraemon
t-shirts with hotpants. bikinis are becoming more common, tho. Cool

oh man, life is hard as a foreign engrish teacher.

OK Sanya's off my list. What are the good beaches there? I might make an effort to visit next long holiday I get.

How did you manage that schedule straight off the bat?
You schmoozing a certain person in Teaching Affairs?
I've usually had to grease like crazy to get a 3-day weekend.
Re Russians. They are a trap aren't they?
You see a Western face and go over to say hello only to find a big fat Nyet.
A warning sign is the women who appear to make up in evening style all the time.
In broad daylight it's - well disconcerting!

Mine's almost the same. 10 hours per week Mon, Tue afternoon, and Wed morning. No bikinis here though.
